In the late 1960s, the Jacobs, a family of settled Roma, live in a dilapidated house in the western suburbs of Paris . There's Jo, the father, who drowns his anger in alcohol; his wife, Rita, who dutifully runs the household; his daughter, Marie, a cashier in a convenience store ; and three of his four sons: Jeannot, the youngest, René, and Jésus.
